Elements of Drip Irrigation System

Elements of Drip Irrigation System

1. Water supply
2. Pump unit (pressure source)
3. Control unit

• Hydrocyclone filter (sand separator):
• Gravel-sand filter (gravel filter, algae filter)
• Fertilizer equipment
• Slieve filter
• Pressure regulator

4. Main pipeline
5. Manifold pipeline (lateral pipeline)
6. Lateral pipelines (drip irrigation pipe)
7. Drippers
8. Other (valve, manometer, flow meter, water meter, vehicles that prevent the return of water, air discharge tools)

Surface drip irrigation systems

Underground drip irrigation systems

Water supply and irrigation water quality

  • The water flow rate, height and quality of the water supply are important.
  • If the altitude differences (between the area that will be irrigated and by water supply) is adequate, there is no need for pump, the drip irrigation system may be operated by gravity effect.
  • The source of irrigation water (Channels, dams, lakes, wells, pools, etc.) and the level of pollution is important when choosing a filter.
  • Analyze the water by taking the samples from the source to be used.
  • Salty water of the third class (T3) can be used in the irrigation system.Water should not contain too much sand and sediment.
  • Waters that contain large amounts of calcium, magnesium and iron are not suitable for the drop-by-drop irrigation system.
  • If we use the well as a water supply then static and dynamic water level, technical characteristics of submersible pump (power, flow, head) are also important.
  • If surface water sources are to be used then electrical, diesel or gasoline engines can be used. (Can be fixed or mobile.)
