Big varieties
Although the size of the fruits of this group is slightly changed over the years, they are generally very large.
Sarıaşılama: The tree grows semiupright in medium strenght. This is the productive variety. The fruite has an oval shape, at the end it is mildly triangular, the base of the fruit is flat. The shell is thin, it hastypical chestnuts glossy color, its surface is slightly streaked with lines. Outside is the cream color, the seed of the membrane penetrates into the seed and it is difficult to remove it while it is fresh. İt gives the fruit every year and  its ready forthe harvest in the first ten days of October. Flower in mid-season (mid-June). This type is suitable for consumption and also used in the industry of  chestnut sweet. It is most susceptible to cancer and the illness of the ink.

Osmanoğlu:The fruite isusually triangular with an oval shape, the symmetry in the fruits is not always complete. The shell is a thin, it has typical chestnuts shiny color, its surface is slightly spun with lines (the ends of the fruits are more often hairy). Outside is the cream color, it penetrates into the seed, and while fresh it is difficult to peel. However, this type does not break apart during cooking and because of it,its used in the production of chestnut sweet. This type is productive and harvested every year in the second week of September. The size of the fruit varies over the years.

Vakit chestnut:It is produce in the coastal area of Yalova. The fruite has triangular shape. The shell is medium thick, the color is mildly hazel-colored, the end of the flesh is noticeably hairy, the surface is mildly striped. Inside its cream-colored, the membrane seed penetrates the seeds and dock it is freshly hard to peel. It is a very productive variety. İts ready for harvest is  in the last week of September. Flowers in the middle season.
Inegöl: The fruits are oval. The shell is thin, typical hazel, shiny, surface lines are less noticeable.İnside ist cream-colored, the membrane seed penetrates into the seed and is easily peeled while fresh. This product is ready for harvest every year in the last week of September. The size of the fruit varies from year to year.
Early varieties
These varieties usually have very small group of fruits.
Karamehmet: The fruits are close to the oval shape, the shell of the flesh is less light and thick.Inside its cream colored, the membrane seeds little or no penetration into the seed and it is difficult to remove it while it is fresh. These varieties with moderate yield are given each year.  Its ready for harvest in first week of September.Fruites are very small.
Hacıibiş: The fruits are close to the oval shape, the shell of the fruit is less light and thick. Inside its cream colored, the membrane seed little or no penetration into the seed and it is hard to remove it while fresh.İts  ready for harvest in the second week of September. Fruites are very small.

Varieties suitable for making dough
The fruit of this species is usually medium or small;
Seeds of the fetal membrane do not enter into the seed and its more easily to peel it while they are fresh.

Mahmutmola: The shell is thin, its moderately bright  colored and slightly hairy. It is cream-colored, the membrane seeds little or no penetration into the seed and it is easier to remove it while it's fresh. This type is productive and produces fruit every year. The harvest is ready in the last Sunday of September.Fuites are medium and small. Flowers in the middle or late season.
Hacıömer: Trees grow in medium strength and  flat. The base has predominantly oval  shape. The shell is thin and mild chestnut color. It is cream-colored, the membrane seeds little or no penetration into the seed and it is easier to remove it while it's fresh.Fruites are medium and small. It is recommended as a good type of pollinator. It is a productive species. It is ready for harvest  in the third week of September. It is suitable for fresh consumption and making dough.
Most of the listed chestnuts are varieties of chestnuts that are grown in the highest yield in the conditions of our country. In addition, there are species that are not cultivated in our area, and these are varieties of chestnuts that are grown abroad and represent a significant place.These are;

It is a hybrid chestnut extracted from the Anatolian chestnut and the Japanese chestnut by the French INRA research institute.

It is the most preferred chestnut rootstock in France because it is resistant to ink disease and is compatible with many chestnut varieties. For example, Belle Epine, Bouche de Betizac, Bournette, Marigoule, Precoce Migoule, Verdale et al. It fits well with the main varieties.
 

As the main varieties for the FRUIT are considered to be susceptible to the gal bee, it should not be planted in the regions where gal bee is founed.

American chestnuts (C. dentata Borkh.): This is one of the most important species of trees in the eastern states of America. By the end of the 1800s, the seeds imported from China (Endothia parasitica) had suffered great damage and killed almost all of these trees until the 1950s. Today there are only the remaining trees. The trees are upright and high. One of the old shoots is dark red, bright, and the oval overflowed buds from the outside are directed towards the outside. The leaves are long jagged. The fruits are very small (150-320 pcs / kg), sweet and easy to peel.

Chinese chestnuts It is known for large, thick leaves with feathers. It can tolerate various climatic and soil conditions. It can withstand temperatures up to -29oC. It is resistant to endothia parasitic cancer. The size of the fruite is variable (60- 300 pcs / kg). (C. mollisima Bl.) 

 

Japanese chestnut (C. crenata Sieb & Zucc.): Trees usually have a form of expansion. Resistance to different climates and soil but  not as much as in Chinese chestnut. It can be damage after -15 ° C. The leaves are narrow. The fruits range from very large to small fruits. The tastes are mostly bad.

European chestnut (C. sativa Mill.): They usually form high trees that grow upright. It varies in the sense of E. parasitic diseases of cancer and cold resistance. The leaves are jagged with edges that are similar to American leaves. But the lower faces are hairy. One of the older branches is stronger, the buds are larger than the other species, dark red, round and oval. Fruity shell is in brown tones. There are many types of it.
